Meet Munya

Munya joined The Millin Charity in September 2019. She was living in Newcastle with her husband and 1 year old daughter. Munya had dreams to set up her own cake business to enable her to manage her business around caring for her family.

After joining The Millin Charity’s Enterprise Programmes, she was supported to make a plan to help her to move forward.

Munya took part in the accredited Going to Market Course where she learnt how to get her business off the ground and to start trading at Markets. She also received a range of one-to-one business Advice & Guidance where she was supported to register her kitchen with the Local Authority and to ensure all Food Safety Requirement were in place.

Munya is now running her own cake business from home, Meme Cakes, specialising in large celebration and wedding cakes.

“I am so thankful for all the support that I have received. I love running my own business. I can manage my business around my responsibilities as a mum. I have now registered as self-employed and promoting my business online. I am getting lots of regular orders which is great.  I want to encourage other women like me who have business ideas to go for it. You can do it.”
